What's inside

Function 3 is 73% of the exam. It's 73% of every sitting here.

FINRA weights the Series 7 by job function, not by topic, and almost three-quarters of it sits in one function: products, recommendations, taxation and records. Our bank is weighted the same way, and each question is tagged to a subtopic — options strategies, municipal math, margin, suitability — so your score report says what to reread.

The distribution printed in FINRA's Series 7 content outline (2025): 125 scored questions plus 5 unidentified pretest questions.

1,200+ original questions, topic-tagged

Written to the current outline and mapped to 27 subtopics — "Options: spreads, straddles & taxation", "Margin accounts (Reg T, maintenance, SMA)", "Municipal pricing, math & taxation" — so every score report ends with a "brush up on" list, worst first.

A true full-exam simulation

130 questions on a fixed 225-minute clock — 125 scored at the official function weighting plus 5 unmarked pretest questions, exactly like exam day. Flag, skip, return, and the on-screen four-function calculator the center gives you.

Quizzes by function, half-length and quick sittings

Twenty-question timed quizzes per job function, a 63-question half-length sitting (113 minutes), and a 20-question quick sitting at the official mix for days you have half an hour. Unlimited fresh draws.

The arithmetic, shown

Breakevens and maximum gains on spreads, SMA and buying power, accrued interest on a 30/360 basis, conversion parity, taxable-equivalent yield — every calculation question's explanation walks the numbers, on a four-function calculator.

Series 7 — common questions

What is the Series 7 pass rate?

FINRA disclosed a 71% first-time pass rate for the Series 7 in 2019, and has not published a newer figure. That is roughly 3 in 10 failing on the first attempt — and each attempt is a $395 fee and a 30-day wait.

What score do you need to pass the Series 7?

72%, which is 90 of the 125 scored questions. Each exam also contains 5 unscored pretest questions mixed in unmarked, so you see 130 questions in 3 hours 45 minutes (225 minutes) — about 108 seconds a scored question. Scores are equated across exam forms, so the raw line can shift slightly; 90/125 is the target to train against.

How is the Series 7 weighted?

By job function, per FINRA's content outline: Function 1, seeking business (9 questions); Function 2, opening accounts and evaluating the customer's profile (11); Function 3, providing information, making recommendations, transferring assets and keeping records (91 — 73% of the exam: every product, options, municipals, taxation, suitability); Function 4, orders, settlement, complaints and margin (14). Every timed sitting here draws exactly 9 / 11 / 91 / 14.

Do I need the SIE before the Series 7?

The SIE is a corequisite: you can sit the two in either order, but both must be passed (the SIE within four years) for the Series 7 registration to become effective. Unlike the SIE, the Series 7 requires a FINRA member firm to sponsor you (Form U4).

What is the hardest part of the Series 7?

Ask anyone who has sat it: options strategies and margin arithmetic, followed by municipal bond math and the sheer breadth of Function 3. None of it is conceptually hard — it is volume plus arithmetic under a clock. That is exactly what timed, exam-weighted simulations train, and why every calculation question here shows its arithmetic in the explanation.

How is this different from Kaplan, STC or Pass Perfect?

They sell full courses — textbook, video, sometimes live classes — with question banks attached, typically at $200–$500 and often paid for by your firm. We sell only the practice layer, done properly: 1,200+ original questions written to the 2025 outline, quizzes by job function, and full 130-question simulations that mirror the real exam's weighting, clock, pretest mechanics and on-screen calculator. Pair it with your firm's course, or use it alone to find out whether you're actually ready.

What happens if I fail the Series 7?

A 30-day wait before each of the next two attempts; after three fails the wait is 180 days. Each attempt is another $395, and most firms give new hires two attempts before the offer is at risk — which is why two full simulations at the pass line, before you book, is the condition on our pass guarantee.
